Virsto hypervisor certified as 'Citrix Ready'

26th October 2011

Virsto Software, provider of VM-centric storage hypervisor software, has today announced that the company’s storage hypervisor has been validated as Citrix Ready. The Citrix Ready certification indicates solutions that are trusted to enhance virtualization, networking and cloud computing offerings from Citrix.

The certification is only awarded to products that meet stringent verification criteria set by the virtualization giants, giving customers confidence in the compatibility of the joint solution. Virsto’s storage hypervisor has been specifically designed to lower costs and increase performance while accelerating provisioning in virtual desktop environments.

By integrating with Citrix XenDesktop, the Virsto hypervisor claims to allow organisations to cut their cost of storage in virtual desktop environments by more than half.

Other benefits for users include:

  • Changing the economics of storage in virtual desktop deployments - by significantly increasing storage utilisation with higher VM density, reducing storage costs by 50 percent or more, and delivering compelling cost-per-desktop economics.

  • Supporting enterprise-scale VDI – by delivering the only solution that provides unlimited snapshots and thin-provisioned clones to enable projects to scale to thousands of virtual desktops, supporting heterogeneous storage to fully utilise and consolidate existing storage resources and robust, cluster-aware HA and backup.

  • Simplifying VDI management – by providing software-driven storage tiering to enable the creation of high-performance, yet cost-effective storage solutions, decreasing the provisioning time of thousands of images from hours to minutes, and supporting simple bulk operations and other flexible tools for managing VDI at scale.

Citrix Ready certification is an important step in demonstrating our commitment to supporting the leading server and desktop virtualisation platforms,” said Mark Davis, CEO for Virsto.

“The integration of Virsto’s purpose-built storage hypervisor for virtual machines with XenDesktop delivers dramatic savings on storage in virtual desktop deployments with accelerated provisioning and simplified management of thousands of virtual desktops.”

Al Monserrat, Senior Vice President, Sales and Services, Citrix added:

“We see customers wanting to move to virtual desktops as quickly as possible. The consumerisation of IT, the proliferation of new and unique consumer devices, and user demands for mobility are driving a need to deliver applications to users anywhere on any device. Certified solutions like Virsto’s can make storage in a virtualised environment easier to manage, perform better and decrease cost.”
