Virtualisation can make back-office systems for agile and flexible

BSS specialist Openet said Thursday that it has virtualized its real-time charging system, realising an agile and flexible system capable of testing, developing, launching and amending new services and business models much more quickly. The aim is to help operators accelerate the availability of innovative new use cases and applications to generate faster ROI for their network technology investments as they battle decreasing revenues from traditional services and pressure from OTT players.

German government drops Verizon in wake of Snowden revelations

Who will watch the watchmen?

The German government has decided to cancel a contract with Verizon Wireless prompted, at least in part, by the revelations of US spying unveiled by NSA contractor Edward Snowden last year. The apparent assumption on the part of the German government is that, as a US company, Verizon will be obliged to allow US security agencies access to German government communications over the Verizon network.

Carta Blanco: NFV at Telefónica

One of the most vigorous operators within the NFV ISG is Spanish incumbent Telefónica and, true to the message of accelerated change that the paper sought to communicate, it has not been sitting idly by. The firm marked the opening of MWC 2014 by setting out aggressive plans for the virtualization of its network functions, including detailed timelines relating to different network elements. The project has been dubbed ‘Unica’ and has as its headline aim the virtualization of 30 per cent of all new infrastructure by 2016.
