With mobile increasingly becoming the dominant platform through which we interact with every conceivable service – communication, banking, shopping, home heating and cooling, and so forth – the City of Los Angeles is preparing an ambitious overhaul to the back and front-end platforms which coordinate core city services for citizens, with the goal of making the majority of the city’s services accessible from one smartphone app. Steve Reneker, general manager of the Information Technology Agency (ITA) and CTO for the City of Los Angeles told Business Cloud News that this, in addition to readying its city-wide ‘cloud-first’ policy, overseeing a big city-wide broadband push and coordinating a national cybersecurity standards effort, is what currently claims the lion’s share of his attention.
