MTI “prescribes remedy for Cloud-Ache”…but what about the other cloud illnesses?!

21st September 2011

We’ve had plenty of press releases through the electronic gateways of BCN, but none so far discussing the perils of “cloud-ache”. What is it, you cry? How do we stop ourselves from catching it? Is ‘the ache’ the first symptom before the deadly “Cloud in a Corner” syndrome kicks in?! Err…not exactly. But to be fair, it is the makings of a good headline by IT consultants MTI, while in the process of drawing some attention to the launch of their new cloud service.

According to the announcement, sent through today, MTI, a "specialist cloud computing infrastructure consultancy firm" based just outside Guildford in the UK, has launched a new cloud service, MTI Cloud.

The MTI Cloud has “been designed to provide businesses with a comprehensive and bespoke combination of consultancy, technology and services to enable them to take full advantage of cloud technologies,” and “developed in direct response to research from within the market that shows navigating the cloud is a major concern for IT decision makers in the UK”.

Leveraging partnerships with EMC, Riverbed, Oxygen Cloud and Peer1 Hosting, the new service is expected to provide a bespoke design and implementation service for companies based in the UK .

MTI Cloud also includes a hosted-storage platform, based on the EMC Atmos Cloud Storage, which can be “used to drive down the costs of acquiring and maintaining sufficient enterprise storage to accommodate rapidly increasing data volumes”.

But what does this have to do with cloud-ache, we hear you cry (sorry, there's a lot of crying going on in this post)?!

Richard Flanders, MTI’s Director of Product Marketing, explained:

“Utilising cloud technologies are, rightly, at the top of most organisations IT list of priorities. The issue is that one size does not fit all. The decision maker is effectively paralysed with “cloud-ache” as they try to consider all the eventualities, and just as a strategy is formed, new technologies arise and businesses need changes.”

Yikes. There’s no doubting that making decisions on choosing cloud infrastructure is tough. But cloud-based paralysis? That’s not something any of us want to even think about.

“Through MTI Cloud, we are removing the guesswork and making it simple for businesses in the UK to take full advantage of this new, flexible and efficient approach to data management,” Flanders added in his press statement.

Thank goodness for that. And all joking aside, he’s pretty much on the money – choosing the right cloud services is becoming more and more complicated for IT decision-makers as more and more providers enter the market, so it’s important to make sure a consultation process is undertaken prior to adopting new services.

Especially if your company is SME size or above. The worst thing you could do is avoid cloud-ache but head full-on into another cloud-based medical problem (those with Cloud-in-a-Corner syndrome, take note once more)…
