Wandera secured $15m this week, which will help fuel the companies expansion in North America and the EU

Cloud encryption gateway provider Wandera has secured $15m in its latest funding round led by 83North, bringing the total amount secured since its founding to $23m.

The company, which has partnerships with a number of telcos including AT&T and BT, provides a mobile app that can monitor and track traffic through a network, and links up with a software as a service that applies data security policies and traffic analytics for traffic sent between the network and mobile devices on which the app is deployed.

“Following the recent Sony Pictures and celebrity iOS hacks, companies are demanding the next generation of mobile security. We have reached a tipping point where businesses must tackle mobile data security threats head-on or face serious repercussions,” said Roy Tuvey, president of Wandera – and co-founder of ScanSafe, a cloud security firm acquired by Cisco in 2010.

“We’re thrilled to add 83North as an investor and this capital will help us grow and scale at a time when mobile attacks are growing exponentially across all smart devices,” Tuvey said.

The company said it plans to use the funding to expand its operations in Europe and North America.

The cloud security gateway approach to securing mobile devices seems to be gaining favour among enterprises, with newer companies like CirpherCloud and more established enterprise mobility management firms like MobileIron building them into the core of their products. It also speaks to growing demand for solutions that can secure devices in the context of bring your own device (BYOD) deployments, which is on the rise.
