Red Hat and Wipro are jointly targeting DevOps and OpenStack customers

Red Hat and global outsourcing and consulting firm Wipro have announced a partnership that will see the two companies jointly target customers with DevOps and OpenStack-based services.

Wipro has long worked with Red Hat’s technologies in a systems integrator capacity and the recently announced partnership will see Wipro extend its professional services to OpenShift and OpenStack.

The companies will jointly deliver Red Hat’s OpenStack-based private cloud platform and OpenShift, Red Hat’s platform as a service, with Wipro contributing consulting expertise around installation and workload migration for both platforms.

“The industry has recognised the potential of OpenStack to transform the cloud for enterprises and telecommunications service providers alike by providing an open alternative. Customers and partners around the globe are excited by its potential and are actively evaluating and planning deployments,” said Radhesh Balakrishnan, general manager, OpenStack at Red Hat.

“We’re excited about working with Wipro to expand OpenStack’s reach, and helping to meet this growing interest through joint solutions built around Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, and by combining our mutual OpenStack and cloud know-how,” Balakrishnan said.

Wipro also plans to build a DevOps orchestrator, which will be integrated with OpenShift and the infrastructure layer. It’s intended to further abstract some of the infrastructure layer away in order to enable automation and application portability between on premise, private and public cloud environments.

Anuj Bhalla, vice president and global head of systems integration a Wipro commented on the partnership: “IT environment scenarios are evolving and merging on-premises and off-premises infrastructure set ups. With the advent of hybrid environment, we see a lot of synergy with Red Hat’s end to end offering that enables customers through the transformation journey of their IT landscape especially on the open stack based cloud initiatives.”

Kind of ironic timing with Mirantis snafu and accusations of Red Hat trying to create their lock-in in OpenStack. Makes me wonder if this partnership is good (promoting OpenStack, etc.) or bad (making Wipro push Red Hat-specific favor of OpenStack) for the industry.
