Mark Hawkins, CFO of Salesforce

Salesforce has announced it has appointed Mark Hawkins, a former Autodesk executive and 30-year veteran of the IT sector, to the role of chief financial officer, where he will oversee the company’s financial organisation globally and report directly to CEO Marc Benioff.

Hawkins is joining the company from multinational software firm Autodesk, where he served as CFO and executive vice president since 2009, and he has spent the past 30 years in a number of roles within the financial organisations of large enterprise IT incumbents like Logitech, Dell, Plex Systems and Hewlett-Packard, where he oversaw a large number of cloud-focused acquisitions.

He was previously a member of the board of directors of BMC Software from 2010 until BMC was taken private last year.

“ is an exceptional company that has transformed and defined an industry in just 15 years,” said Hawkins. “I’ve long admired what Marc [Benioff] and his team have done, and I am excited to be a part of the company and help forge its next decade of growth, innovation and customer success.”

Hawkins will replace Salesforce’s current CFO Graham Smith, who announced his retirement earlier this year but will remain a full-time advisor to Benioff until March next year at the very least. He held the post since 2008.

“We are thrilled to have Mark join and help guide our growth from more than $5bn in revenue this year to $10bn and beyond,” said Benioff. “He is the right person to succeed Graham, who has been a phenomenal CFO and instrumental to our success over the past six years.”
