Anglo American is deploying Box for over 10,000 employees globally to improve file sharing and collaboration within the company

London-headquartered Anglo American announced this morning that the company is deploying enterprise share and collaboration Box for over 10,000 employees globally. Anglo American chief information officer David Heppenstall said the move driven by a need to more effectively connect employees operating across five continents.

London-based Anglo American, which produces most of the world’s platinum in addition to other rare minerals, has operations in Southern Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America.

The company said its employees were fairly limited to internal file sharing for most of their documents and critical data, and lacked mobile and offline access to content which, for many of those based in areas lacking dependable internet connectivity, is a very significant challenge.

“Sustainable development, efficiency and empowering a global workforce are the key initiatives that drive our business forward. When you create a more productive, connected workplace environment, communication thrives and everyone benefits,” Heppenstall said.

The company also integrated its social platform, Jive, with the Box, in a bid to merge activity streams.

Since the initial 3,000 seat deployment last year, user numbers have trebled to over 10,000.

“Moving to a cloud technology like Box that allows us to centralize all our content and provide a secure, simple and efficient tool for our employees was a natural fit for our company,” he added.

Box is in the midst of a big expansion in Europe, having grown its EU operations from one to 90 people within the space of less than 18 months, and the company recently (secretly) filed for an IPO according to several sources, in a bid to help fuel its global growth plans.

“A company’s ability to securely share and manage information can be the difference between winning and losing in today’s increasingly competitive market,” said David Quantrell, general manager of EMEA at Box.

“Anglo American’s deployment underscores the adoption we’ve seen worldwide as businesses,” he added.
