Virtustream acquired ViewTrust for an undisclosed sum, and plans to offer its software as well as embed its technology in its IaaS offering

Cloud service provider Virtustream announced Tuesday that it has acquired ViewTrust Technology, a provider of security and compliance technology for enterprises. The firms have not disclosed the details of the transaction.

Virtustream, which provides both infrastructure as a service and dedicated application services said that it will expand its software portfolio to include ViewTrust’s product lineup, which includes enterprise risk management, security and compliance solutions.

“As organisations continue to move their most critical enterprise class workloads to the cloud, security and compliance must be priority number one,” said Rodney Rogers, chairman and chief executive officer, Virtustream.

“Virtustream’s acquisition of ViewTrust assures our customers that we can provide a real time, 360 degree view of their entire IT environment, allowing them to manage their enterprise risk while complying with regulatory requirements.”

It will also embed ViewTrust’s technology in its IaaS offering, which it said would help make its platform more auditable and help customers tackle security and compliance issues – a growing area of concern for enterprises.

“By integrating a comprehensive GRC, SIEM and risk management offering into our service, we will save our clients money, reduce deployment time to minutes, and ensure their environments are continuously monitored and secure,” added Kevin Reid, chief executive officer and chief technical officer, Virtustream.

According to Agatha Poon, research manager at 451 Research, Virtustream’s acquisition of ViewTrust was a smart move that will help the company shore up its credentials as a “challenger brand.” It will also help the company hedge its bets in the growing information security and compliance market, which according to Gartner will be amongst the biggest growth areas in the security as a service market this year.
