Anand Sankaran, president and global head of Dell services’ infrastructure and cloud

In its first big cloud-related personnel shakeup since founder Michael Dell took the company private, Dell announced that Anand Sankaran will join the company as president and global head of Dell services’ infrastructure and cloud. The move may give Dell an edge in high-growth markets.

Sankaran will report to Suresh Vaswani, president of Dell Services and will lead a global team of nearly 10,000 employees responsible for driving infrastructure consulting and delivery, managed services and other services related to the company’s cloud offerings.

“Anand’s impressive strategic expertise and operational excellence in infrastructure services are a great fit for Dell as we continue to drive our global services business in support of these CXO challenges. Anand will help us execute our strategy and rapidly build upon the strength of our infrastructure and cloud computing capabilities. These capabilities will help us continue differentiating Dell and are some of our most strategic investment areas,” Vaswani said.

Sankaran was formerly senior vice president of Wipro’s global infrastructure services business as well as head of Wipro Infotech’s India and Middle East business, having worked there in a number of technical management positions since 1989.

“I’m thrilled to join the Dell team,” said Mr. Sankaran. “Dell has leading technology, a strong global brand and customer relationships that make the growth opportunity exceptional. I look forward to working with Dell’s talented team and helping drive its strategy.”

Sankaran, who will be based in Bangalore, India, succeeds Kevin Jones, who moved into the recently created chief customer and sales officer role within Dell Services.

“Customers rely on Dell Services to maximize their current technology investments, while enabling them to prepare for the future. It’s a fast growing area with a lot of demand. Anand is a proven leader and joins a strong Services team that will accelerate our momentum,” said Michael Dell, chairman and chief executive officer of Dell
